This paper uses a phenomics platform similar to that in The Plant Accelerator, in parallel to field trials, to measure resilience to water deficit of different maize varieties. It demonstrates that phenomics scoring of traits as simple as early vegetative growth rate under water stress can deliver comparable, or even better, rankings than extensive, long-term field trials.
